Hamid’s Story

My father was the best hairdresser in my home town of Isfahan. He had a huge clientele that consisted of both ladies and men. He was very successful. He even had his own TV advertisement which was a big deal 40 years ago.

And then in 1978 the Islamic Revolution happened. All the rules changed. It had a huge impact on the hairdressing industry and on my father. He could no longer perform hair services on ladies as that was now forbidden. It was strictly men’s hair only. He lost all of his female clients and all of his passion. As a child I enjoyed watching my father work but I never understood his sadness.

As I grew older, my father taught me barbering and how to cut my mother’s and my sister’s hair. But he wanted more for me. And so I studied hard and got my Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications Engineering.

At about this time I decided to leave my lovely Country, but before I could do this I would have to meet the strict criteria required to immigrate to Australia. It took a very long eight years. I finally received my permanent residency and boarded a plane to Australia in April 2015.

It was proving difficult to get an Engineering job and I learnt very quickly that I didn’t want to be a builders labourer! I decided to use this fresh start as an opportunity to try hairdressing and spent the next two years working in Hairdressing Salons in Perth. I really struggled with the lack of pride that some hairdresser and owners had. Money seemed more important than Quality or Customer Service. However this just motivated me more. At night my partner and I would have lengthy conversations and slowly a plan
came together.

We dreamed of a Salon where it started with great hospitality and finished with a very satisfied customer looking gorgeous and telling us that they would be back. Where staff were encouraged to be passionate about their work and rewarded for a great job. Where I could follow in my father’s footsteps and make him proud.

We worked hard breaking through the barriers, coping with the challenges and on the 15th of August 2017 we finally realised our dream opening the doors to Hair by Hamid at Westfield Whitfords City

Several weeks after the Pandemic’s onset we were learning the emotional and financial fragility of a small business. Covid related disruptions were having a significant Impact on our business. Thank goodness we live in beautiful WA but how long would this crisis loom? We closed the doors for the final time on the 29/12/2020.

On the 1st of January 2021 we opened Hair by Hamid @ home. It is a lovely boutique salon offering specialised hair services by appointment in the gorgeous suburb of Padbury.

At Hair by Hamid we understand that quality isn’t cheap and cheap isn’t quality. But we still want to offer good Value for Money. We have always been proud of the wide range of services we offer and we work hard to give all of our clients a wonderful experience so that they will leave our salon feeling and looking fabulous!

Our Salon

What started as an idle thought back in late 2015 developed and grew into an absolutely wonderful hair salon. Hair by Hamid was created out of a desire to work in a unisex hair salon where quality is only beaten by customer service.

We were lucky to have absolutely lovely senior hairdressers who were talented, passionate and trained to international standards, providing a friendly, professional service with all hair colouring, cutting and styling services. In line with this and our commitment to the industry our apprentices also had great personalities and an unwavering desire to learn all that is hairdressing.

And then Covid 19 happened!
